Fibromyalgia Support and Myotherapy in Ballarat

Fibromyalgia is a whole body condition, and treatment that ignores that usually backfires. Our approach is gentle, paced to your tolerance on the day and built around leaving you better, not wiped out.

    What it is

    Understanding fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia involves widespread pain and heightened sensitivity, often alongside fatigue, disturbed sleep and difficulty concentrating. The nervous system amplifies signals that would not normally register as painful, which is why pressure that feels fine to someone else can be genuinely sore for you. Symptoms fluctuate, and a flare can be triggered by stress, poor sleep, weather changes or simply doing more than usual on a good day. Living with it means managing an unpredictable baseline.

    How myotherapy helps

Treating the driver, not just the sore spot.

We adjust everything to your tolerance. Treatment is slower and lighter than a standard remedial session, using sustained gentle pressure and myofascial techniques that aim to downregulate the nervous system rather than push through tissue. We work on the areas of highest sensitivity conservatively, and we check in constantly rather than assuming that more pressure means more benefit. Just as importantly, we talk through pacing, sleep and gentle movement, because those often do more for the overall pattern than anything that happens on the table.

    What we commonly see

    Familiar patterns.

No two presentations are identical, but these are the versions of fibromyalgia that come through the clinic most often.

    Widespread pain

Soreness that moves around the body rather than staying in one place.

    Flare cycles

Good stretches followed by setbacks triggered by stress, sleep or overdoing it.

    Touch sensitivity

Pressure that would be comfortable for most people feeling genuinely painful.

    Fatigue and sleep

Waking unrefreshed, with pain and tiredness feeding each other.

    Your treatment plan

    What treatment looks like.

We start conservatively, deliberately doing less in the first session than we might be able to, so we can see how your body responds over the following days. From there we build a rhythm that suits you, which for some people is regular short sessions and for others is treatment during flares only. Progress is judged by your function and your flare pattern across weeks, not by how you feel in the hour after treatment. We work in with your GP and any other practitioners involved in your care.

    01
    Assessment first

We start with a proper conversation about your history, how the pain behaves through the week and what you want to get back to, followed by hands on and movement assessment.

    02
    Targeted treatment

Treatment is directed at what the assessment found, not a set routine. For fibromyalgia that usually means a combination of hands on techniques chosen for your presentation on the day.

    03
    Your take home plan

You leave with two or three specific things to do between sessions, kept realistic so they actually get done, plus a clear picture of what to expect next.

    Who it affects

    Who we treat for this.

People living with a fibromyalgia diagnosis, often for years, who have found standard deep tissue treatment too aggressive. We also see clients with widespread sensitivity who are still working through a diagnosis with their doctor.
