Occupational and Postural Pain Treatment in Ballarat
Work loads the body in very specific ways, and it does it for eight hours a day, five days a week. We treat the tissue that is taking the brunt and change what we can about the demand placed on it.

Understanding occupational and postural pain.
Occupational pain builds from sustained or repeated load rather than a single incident. Sitting all day keeps the hip flexors short and the glutes quiet while the upper back holds a static position. Standing work loads the calves, lower back and feet. Driving combines vibration with a fixed position. Trade work adds repeated lifting, overhead work and tool use, often to one side. The result is a predictable pattern of overloaded tissue, and pain that is worst late in the week and eases over a decent break.
Treating the driver, not just the sore spot.
We treat the specific structures under load, which we identify through assessment rather than assuming. That usually involves deep tissue work through the overloaded muscles, dry needling for trigger points that keep reforming, and taping where you need to get through a busy stretch of work more comfortably. Alongside that, we work through your setup and habits: screen and chair height, how you break up sustained positions, how you lift, and which side you always favour. Then we build strength in the muscles that should be sharing the load.
Familiar patterns.
No two presentations are identical, but these are the versions of occupational and postural pain that come through the clinic most often.
Upper back and neck tightness that peaks in the last hours of the day.
Lower back, calf and foot fatigue from hard floors and long shifts.
Forearm, elbow and shoulder strain from tool use or the same task repeated.
Low back and hip discomfort that builds over long stretches behind the wheel.
What treatment looks like.
We usually begin with a short block of treatment to settle the irritable tissue, because it is difficult to change a habit while you are sore. Your take home plan is deliberately work compatible, often a couple of exercises and one or two positional changes rather than a program that assumes free time you do not have. Many clients then move to occasional maintenance visits, particularly during busy periods. If your pain is work related and you are going through WorkSafe, we are registered, and a medical referral is required.
We start with a proper conversation about your history, how the pain behaves through the week and what you want to get back to, followed by hands on and movement assessment.
Treatment is directed at what the assessment found, not a set routine. For occupational and postural pain that usually means a combination of hands on techniques chosen for your presentation on the day.
You leave with two or three specific things to do between sessions, kept realistic so they actually get done, plus a clear picture of what to expect next.
